New York City Department of Health Expands Use of Bioterror Disease ID System Via the Health Alert Network (HAN)
Over 14,000 Area Physicians Can Now Access VisualDx Technology to Speed Recognition of Diseases and Prepare for Treatment

Rochester, NY - November 16, 2005 - Logical Images, a developer of software that helps clinicians make faster and more accurate diagnoses of visually identifiable conditions, today announced the renewal of a contract with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) to expand VisualDx throughout its Health Alert Network and 15 hospitals and 10 clinics.

VisualDx, an image-based diagnostic tool with over 10,000 medical photographs of nearly 600 diseases, provides medical providers with the ability to quickly and accurately identify and treat health threats that may be unfamiliar to them. After physicians enter basic observations about their patient - such as lesion type, distribution, symptoms, signs, medical history, etc. - the system instantly returns photographs of diseases, sorted by relevance to their patient, as well as clinical information on each disease.

"In this age of terrorism and emerging infectious diseases, doctors need resources that are current and easy to access. Physicians are increasingly relying upon electronic databases rather than on medical atlases or textbooks," said Dr. Dan Wiener, Chairman of Emergency Medicine at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. "Decision support software tools like VisualDx help our doctors make confident, accurate diagnoses in the day-to-day care of patients, and are especially helpful when faced with an atypical presentation which is beyond their usual clinical experience. This will be particularly valuable when faced with a newly emerging infection or bioterrorist event."

The New York City Health Alert Network (HAN) provides the city's medical community with public health news, including infectious disease outbreaks, uncommon disease bulletins and biological, chemical and radiation-related terrorism events. The network reaches over 14,000 healthcare providers and public health workers throughout the city conveying public health alerts, advisories and updates, and offers an online community for peer-to-peer exchange of information. Deployed on the HAN to aid in the early detection of bioterrorism since 2004, the NYC DOHMH recently expanded its HAN implementation of VisualDx to include assistance in the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted disease. In addition, the DOHMH has deployed the complete VisualDx software system in 15 hospitals and 10 clinics throughout New York City.

VisualDx is used throughout the United States to facilitate diagnosis in everyday clinical situations and to meet federal goals for bioterrorism preparedness. Major clients include the U.S. Army Medical Command, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Washington D.C. Emergency Health Medical Services Administration (EHMSA), state departments of health such as Mississippi, New York, Delaware, as well as county departments of health and many other locations in the United States and worldwide.

"When patients suffer from an illness, especially one with a rash or visual cue, they often rush to their primary care or emergency physician first. Unfortunately, even the most talented doctor may not immediately recognize a disease or a variation of a disease that he or she hasn't seen before," said Art Papier, MD, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Logical Images. "VisualDx is like having a trusted visual diagnosis specialist at your side to assist in confirming your diagnosis. In this age of emerging infectious disease, bioterrorism and complex medical care, it is no longer good enough to say, 'come back next week if it doesn't get better.' Every physician needs the best resources available to help them make the right diagnosis, the first time."
