Oneida Healthcare Center Installs Logical Images' VisualDx Diagnostic Software
System Will Help Doctors Offer Faster, More Accurate Diagnoses and Treatment of Bioterrorism, Infectious Disease and Everyday Conditions Alike
Rochester, NY - July 5, 2005 - Logical Images, a developer of software that helps clinicians make faster and more accurate diagnoses, announced the installation of its VisualDx® software system at Oneida Healthcare Center (OHC), a 101-bed acute care hospital and 162-bed skilled nursing facility serving communities in Madison and western Oneida counties in western New York State. OHC licensed the software as part of its efforts to increase bioterrorism preparedness and provide better day-to-day patient care.
"We're a smaller hospital and don't have access to some of the specialists that big cities do, such as dermatologists or infectious disease specialists," said Paul Scopac, chief operating officer of OHC. "But our primary care doctors and emergency physicians are seeing people with all kinds of rashes and ailments, and VisualDx can be very useful in helping them pinpoint a particular diagnosis and start treatment right away, rather than going through an extensive process."
VisualDx is an interactive software system that allows clinicians to input specific information based on their examination of a patient. The system then searches its database of nearly 9,000 images of 500 diseases and comes up with photos of possible conditions that fit the information the doctor has input, enabling a rapid and more accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment. Because of its detailed modules on anthrax, smallpox and other agents that might be intentionally released by terrorists, bioterrorism preparedness experts believe VisualDx will be a valuable tool in the war on terrorism.
"We're pleased that OHC chose VisualDx as a way to enhance its preparedness efforts and provide a powerful diagnostic-support system that its clinicians can use every day," said Michael O'Connor, president of Logical Images. "This installation expands on our current installations in New York State and throughout the U.S. to help protect our citizens."
VisualDx was installed in September 2004 in eight Regional Resource Centers throughout the state in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health, local health departments, emergency management planners and healthcare organizations.
"OHC is known as a leader in implementing healthcare technology," added Art Papier, M.D., chief medical officer of Logical Images. "Their choice of VisualDx demonstrates both their confidence in our system and their commitment to innovation in the way they take care of patients."
In addition to installations throughout New York, VisualDx is now being used by the U.S. Army, major hospitals and public health clinics throughout Mississippi, hospitals and public health clinics in Washington, D.C., and many other locations in the U.S. and worldwide.
