What grants are available to help my public health department fund VisualDx?

Most VisualDx public health clients obtain federal grant funds to deploy VisualDx. Funds are available through grants such as

  • CDC Cooperative Agreement for Public Health Preparedness and Response for Bioterrorism
  • Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Cooperative Agreement for Hospital Bioterrorism Preparedness

CDC Cooperative Agreement for Public Health Preparedness and Response for Bioterrorism

  • Purpose
    To ensure that state and local health departments, hospitals and other health care entities are able to mount a collective response featuring seamless interaction of their event-specific capabilities.
  • Eligibility
    State, city and county public health departments. Work with your local and/or state-level public health bioterrorism preparedness grant coordinator for funding through this program.
  • How VisualDx meets critical benchmarks, enhanced capacities and critical capacities
    • Critical benchmark #7:
      • Surveillance and epidemiology capacity
    • Enhanced capacities #4 and #5:
      • Public health surveillance and detection capacities
    • Critical capacities #6:
      • Education and training

HRSA Cooperative Agreement for Hospital
Bioterrorism Preparedness

  • Purpose
    To ready hospitals and supporting health care systems to deliver coordinated and effective care to victims of terrorism and other public health emergencies. Upgrades will aid in abilities to respond effectively to bioterrorism, other outbreaks of infectious disease, and other public health threats and emergencies.
  • Eligibility
    State and state agencies. Work with state-level HRSA grant coordinators for funding through this program.

      • Education and preparedness training
    • Critical benchmark #4-2:
      • Surveillance
    • Critical benchmark #6:
      • Terrorism preparedness exercises

Remember, past years’ unspent allocations may be available.

A regional or statewide approach to funding may put you in a better position to receive funds, especially due to the mandate to integrate activities between funds provided by the CDC and HRSA. Bioterrorism events occur locally, however, response capacity must be assured at both the state and local levels.
